Traditions

Thanksgiving is probably my favorite holiday. It has all the benefits of Christmas with less than half the expectations: a house full of extended family, too much food, live sports as background noise, and no presents.

Since Covid, however, Thanksgiving has been on the quieter side. Most of my cousins have their own families now. And if we were to gather all of us in one place it would rival the size of most American weddings.

It's a heavy lift for whoever decides to host. But I'm down for the challenge. If your last name ends in Wala and/or we share blood, Thanksgiving at our place next year. Lock it up 🔒

I did, however, manage to keep one tradition alive this year. My middle/high school lunch table and I got together for a night of degenerate gambling.

We skipped the casino and played poker for a few hours while watching the Knicks take an absolute beating from a Luka-less Mavericks team.

Oversight

After a slow entitlement process, we've been ripping through Project Silver Spring. We may have been moving a little too quickly, however.

This is our first time using Zip System Sheathing instead of regular OSB or plywood.

Zip System Sheathing

The cool thing about Zip is that it comes with insulation.

...Or so we thought.

Zip recently introduced a new product line: regular OSB sheathing with no insulation.

We didn't realize what we bought until the inspector asked how we planned to insulate the exterior. D'oh!

D'oh!
D'oh!

After looking at a few different options, we decided to use foam board to achieve the R-value necessary.

We'll lose somewhere between one and two weeks to this oversight. Not the end of the world. Just a healthy dose of embarrassment more than anything else.

IRL>

Ok, you tell me if I'm crazy.

I try to convert online relationships to In Real Life or IRL-adjacent (telephone, zoom, etc.).

For example... If someone interesting starts engaging with my tweets, I'll DM them and suggest we get on a call. If they're local I'll suggest we grab coffee.

If I see someone doing something awesome, I'll follow them, like a bunch of their stuff, reply to a few, then DM them and ask to hop on a call.

(All of these conversations are with men only, btw)

In the past month, I've met 2 people from X in real life and I'm about to meet another this week.

On a scale of 1-10, how weird is this behavior?

Dia says I'm a certified psychopath with a death wish and I'm one meeting away from being the plot of a Netflix True Crime Documentary.

But I'm hoping she's being too pessimistic.

What do you think? Hit reply and let me know.
